Our goal
PCSK9 Education and Research Forum is the major, globally-recognised resource of independent knowledge of PCSK9 science and its translation to therapeutic innovation. Our mission is to facilitate development of these new treatments in order to transform the prognosis of millions of people with hypercholesterolaemia and accelerated atherosclerotic vascular disease.
Our response to this challenge
PCSK9 Education and Research Forum is a not-for-profit organisation established by leading researchers in the fields of atherosclerosis, lipids and cardiovascular disease. The PCSK9 Education and Research Forum is focused on raising awareness and knowledge of the significant role played by PCSK9 in lipid metabolism and its value as a novel therapeutic target. As part of this remit, PCSK9 Education and Research Forum offers healthcare professionals open access to electronic and multimedia platforms providing real-time reporting of significant developments and news; authoritative analysis and commentary; and an extensive library of accredited educational materials tailored to the differing needs of registrants.
Our partnership and outreach
Through its unique global network of researchers and clinicians, the PCSK9 Education and Research Forum connects academic institutions, research organisations and societies which share the Forum’s commitment to the reduction of CVD mortality and morbidity through improved management of atherosclerotic dyslipidaemia. The Forum builds on educational partnerships with such organisations through jointly sponsored symposia, as well as accredited research and educational programmes.
Objectives
The PCSK9 Education and Research Forum has the following aims:
(i) Supports, develops and disseminates, on a worldwide scale, timely updates on current knowledge of the biology and therapeutic potential of PCSK9 tailored to varying levels of knowledge. The audience encompasses clinical specialists, general practitioners, clinical investigators, basic research scientists, clinical biochemists and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of patients at high cardiovascular risk.
(ii) Supports the continued translation of the biology of PCSK9 into an effective anti-atherosclerotic therapy with the ultimate goal of enhancing care of dyslipidaemic patients at high risk of premature cardiovascular disease.
(iii) Facilitates interaction and exchange between clinicians across multiple clinical specialities involving dyslipidaemia, so as to optimise therapeutic application of PCSK9-targeted therapeutics in CVD prevention.
(iv) Provides clinicians with online educational tools and resources in order to facilitate worldwide dissemination of knowledge of PCSK9, focusing on innovative therapies to reduce plasma levels of LDL-cholesterol and cardiovascular risk.
(v) Identifies gaps in present knowledge in this field and stimulates further research through multiple initiatives including expert meetings, panel discussions, webinars, symposia and attribution of international research grants to the academic community.
Research grants
The PCSK9 Education and Research Forum views international research grants as a key focus to stimulate critical research efforts in academia across this field, and hopes to initiate this process in the near future.
Clinical and scientific evaluation of applications for research grants will be undertaken by the Editors and Advisory Board and progress of the research project will be actively monitored by interim progress reports and a midterm scientific evaluation meeting. Publication of the final results is a requisite. The final data will be presented in closed PCSK9 meetings, in PCSK9 Education and Research Forum sponsored symposia, as well as in open scientific meetings. Attribution of educational grants to the Forum by external organisations to support such research grants will be openly acknowledged.
